About

welcome!

I'm Jamie and I'm so excited to talk design with you.
I'm going on year 8 as a graphic designer, yet my love for design extends back much farther. Becoming a freelancer has allowed me to find a passion and niche in branding and social media, but if I'm being real, all-things design and digital media excite me. It's a rare occurrence to see me without my face buried in my laptop doing research or troubleshooting an idea.
I graduated from South Dakota State University School of Design in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic. Finding work in my field was not exactly easy at the time, but it taught me to never lose hope or get discouraged when things don't go as planned. The last thing I wanted was to settle for an opportunity that wouldn't allow my degree and technical skills to be used to their full potential.
Design & Video EXPERIENCE
I currently work as an independent contractor for Redwood Valley Technical Solutions, a web design and digital marketing agency, where I get the perfect balance of creative freedom, collaboration, and hustle. I love getting to help local businesses and organizations gain exposure and thrive in today's digital world!
After shooting video for several friends' weddings, I decided to make my side hustle official by creating Midway Creative Co. in 2022 for freelance wedding videography. Adding video to my skill set came with its fair share of challenges but also brought out a passion I didn't know I had or needed. The sky is the limit when it comes to filmmaking, and I'm excited to see where it takes me.

Like anything I do in life, I am entirely driven by my will to succeed. Each project brings a new challenge, and my desire to conquer that challenge is what motivates me. I recognize trial, error, and failure as essential parts of the design process, where my end goal is to find originality while straying away from cliches and mediocrities. I love finding things in my day-to-day life that spark new, original ideas. I am naturally drawn to research and history-based information and use my findings to help problem solve and determine final solutions. Using research-based information helps give my solutions a "why"—a meaning—a purpose.

My advice to anyone looking to grow in their profession is to:
    ■   step outside your comfort zone and take chances; you will thank yourself later
    ■   always see the bright side—even in the most tense and chaotic situations
    ■   push yourself, strive for greatness, and never settle; good is never good enough
